TL;DR

Housing Minister MK Yitzhak Goldknopf (United Torah Judaism) arrived at the protest of the Gur Hasidic community near the Beit Lid military base (Prison 10) and is reciting Psalms with demonstrators, according to Ynet. Police subsequently blocked Route 57 in both directions due to the protest.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The protest outside Beit Lid, which began earlier Wednesday afternoon, escalated this evening with the arrival of Housing Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf. Goldknopf, who represents the United Torah Judaism party and is from the Gur Hasidic community, joined demonstrators in reciting Psalms at the protest site, near the base that serves as a military prison (Prison 10).

As The Zioneer reported earlier at 16:51, police blocked Route 57 in both directions — eastbound from the Beit Lid junction and westbound from the Kfar Yona junction — as a result of the protest, which was initially staged by members of the Gur Hasidic community. Police had not yet released details on arrests or estimated reopening times as of 18:33.

The demonstration is part of a broader protest campaign by extremist Haredi groups against the arrest of draft evaders, with similar protests held across the country this week, as The Zioneer reported earlier today.
