Likud Minister Amichai Shikli told 103FM radio this morning that Israel must hold strategic positions inside Lebanese territory after any agreement, rather than return solely to the Blue Line. "If we withdraw from the Yellow Line, we have failed," Shikli said, calling the Yellow Line Israel's necessary security frontier.
Likud Minister Amichai Shikli offered a forceful position on the post-agreement security arrangement in southern Lebanon Wednesday morning in an interview on 103FM's "Sheva Tish'ah" program with Gideon Oko and Amichai Attali.
Shikli argued that Israel must retain a presence inside Lebanese territory — at what he called strategic positions along the Yellow Line — and not return only to the internationally recognized Blue Line. "If we withdraw from the Yellow Line, we have failed. We must ensure we are sitting at those strategic points inside Lebanese territory. We must not defend Metula from a position inside Metula — if we go back to the Blue Line, in my eyes that will be a failure," Shikli said.
The Yellow Line refers to an unofficial Israeli security boundary slightly north of the Blue Line, where IDF forces have operated and maintained positions since the 2024 ground operation. Shikli's remarks come as diplomatic discussions over a post-conflict framework for southern Lebanon continue, with Israeli officials divided over the depth of any withdrawal. As The Zioneer previously reported, a senior Israeli figure this week demanded the prime minister clarify that the Yellow Line is a red line — a position Shikli now echoes publicly.
Shikli's statement remains a political position from a single MK, not government policy; no official cabinet decision has been cited.
