Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, chairman of the Together party, addressed the Haredi community after the Basic Law: Torah Study passed its preliminary Knesset vote, saying: "Haredi brothers and sisters — I love and respect you. The Basic Law: Torah Study, which the government is pushing with full force and which has now passed its preliminary reading, will fatally harm the State of Israel, and will fatally harm you as well." Bennett said it is not a political matter but one of life and death, adding that the country needs the Haredi public without whom neither Israel nor they will endure, according to N12.
