Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold few diplomatic meetings during his visit to the UN General Assembly in New York due to tight scheduling, according to The Jerusalem Post. He will land at a military airfield in New Jersey, travel to Manhattan for his address, and then return to Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is en route to New York for a brief visit to address the UN General Assembly tonight at 21:00 Jerusalem time, as The Zioneer reported earlier today. According to a new report from The Jerusalem Post, his schedule is compressed, with few bilateral meetings planned due to tight timing. Netanyahu is expected to land at a military airfield in New Jersey, travel to Manhattan for his address, and then return to Israel shortly after.
Earlier today at 08:33 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that Netanyahu was aboard the 'Wing of Zion' with heightened security measures, and that nine meetings were scheduled with leaders from Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Panama, Ethiopia, Colombia, Greece, Slovenia, and Papua New Guinea. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed that list at the same time. The Jerusalem Post's report now indicates a more limited diplomatic program, suggesting that some of those meetings may not take place or that the schedule has been revised.
The trip was previously reported to be under 72 hours, departing after Yom Kippur and returning before Sukkot, as The Zioneer reported on July 23. The 81st UN General Assembly is underway in New York, with some 130 heads of state in attendance, as reported on September 22. Netanyahu's address is scheduled for this evening.
It remains unclear which of the previously announced bilateral meetings will actually be held, or whether the PMO will issue an updated schedule. No meeting with President Trump has been arranged.
