The statement comes after al-Busaidi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran earlier Tuesday, following the arrival of Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, in the Iranian capital. Munir’s visit, which reportedly was brought forward after a conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, is part of broader efforts to restart stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian sources described the Omani FM's visit as a decisive step toward completing a joint declaration on new arrangements for vessel passage through the strait, to be jointly managed and overseen by Iran and Oman. Later, a joint statement from the two countries outlined a proposed framework including the creation of a temporary shared shipping lane through the strait and an agreement to implement a joint project to clear mines from the waterway.
The developments follow months of diplomatic activity aimed at resolving the standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, which has been largely closed to international shipping since March 2026. As The Zioneer reported earlier Tuesday, Tehran and Muscat have been working toward a bilateral framework that would give Iran a role in managing maritime traffic while providing a route for commercial vessels.
