A pedestrian died overnight on Route 77 in the Lower Galilee in an unusual sequence of events, police said Tuesday morning.

According to Israel Police's spokesperson, the victim was initially involved in a traffic collision on the southbound lane near the Movil Interchange. After the crash, he left his vehicle and, in an attempt to move away from the scene, jumped the median barrier into the northbound lane, where he was struck by an oncoming police car. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police from the Northern District, together with traffic accident investigators, arrived at the location and opened an investigation into the circumstances of the fatality. The identity of the victim has not yet been released to the public.

The incident follows a series of fatal road accidents across northern Israel in recent weeks. This event is under investigation.
