The directive came hours after Zini said he bears "full responsibility" for the earlier decision not to provide Eisenkot with Shin Bet security, as The Zioneer reported at 15:47 Jerusalem. The issue of Eisenkot's security has been a recurring subject over the past month. As The Zioneer reported on July 22, Eisenkot was not receiving Shin Bet coverage, leading his office to assign a personal guard. On July 27, Zini stated that he had met with Eisenkot and other opposition figures on Netanyahu's instruction and asked them not to politicize security matters. On July 29, Eisenkot demanded immediate personal security coverage, according to a report.
The development also follows a request by the Movement for Quality Government earlier Sunday, at 15:13 Jerusalem, calling on the Attorney General to investigate contradictions in Zini's statements regarding Eisenkot's security. Justice Minister Yariv Levin had previously urged President Isaac Herzog to support Zini, as The Zioneer reported on July 8.
The specific threats that prompted Eisenkot's security demand have not been publicly detailed, and it remains unclear whether the Shin Bet will now implement Netanyahu's directive.
