Israeli police cleared disorderly protesters in Jerusalem and reopened all traffic arteries, according to a police spokesperson. The update comes amid ongoing Haredi protests in the city over draft-related arrests.
Police in Jerusalem said they cleared protesters who had blocked roads and dispersed the demonstration at the city center, reopening all traffic arteries to vehicles and public transit. Earlier this week, similar protests escalated as demonstrators set garbage bins on fire and threw objects at officers, as The Zioneer reported on June 9. The latest round of demonstrations follows police actions against draft evaders, including arrests near the Tunnel Checkpoint and attempts to prevent extradition of Haredi soldiers to military police. A separate protest at the Abu Kabir detention compound ended after three and a half hours earlier today. Police have continued to use dispersal means including force and, in previous incidents, stun grenades, while releasing at least one detainee who was celebrated by fellow protesters.
