Police Commissioner Danny Levi said Wednesday evening that if commanders and officers acted against protocol during this morning's Haredi protest in Bnei Brak, they will be suspended from operational duty. Levi confirmed that a specific officer who kicked a protester has been suspended, according to N12's Amit Segal.
Police Commissioner Danny Levi announced Wednesday evening that an officer who kicked a protester during a Haredi demonstration in Bnei Brak earlier in the day has been suspended. In a statement cited by N12's Amit Segal, Levi said that commanders and officers found to have acted against procedure during the protest would be suspended from operational duty.
"If we see that commanders and officers at the Bnei Brak protest this morning acted not according to procedures — we will not hesitate to deal severely and suspend from operational activity," Levi said, according to the police statement. He added that senior commanders were present at the protest and that his expectation of them is to control the incident.
The protest, held over the arrest of draft evaders, saw clashes between demonstrators and police. Earlier Wednesday, Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) announced it would probe several officers over footage from the protest. The incident is the latest in a series of Haredi protests this week against military enlistment enforcement, which have drawn sharp criticism from Haredi lawmakers and public figures over police conduct.
