Mahash is questioning a police officer on suspicion of assaulting a Haredi protester during last week's demonstration on Highway 4 (Geha Interchange), N12 reported Thursday. Video footage from the protest appears to show the officer kicking the protester in the head, the report said.
The incident is the latest in a series of clashes between police and Haredi demonstrators over the past several weeks. As The Zioneer reported, Police Commissioner Danny Levi earlier ordered the suspension of an officer seen kicking a different protester at the same Highway 4 protest on June 17, and several other officers have been summoned for questioning by Mahash regarding their conduct during the demonstrations. An undercover police vehicle was also attacked during the protests, and at least one officer was wounded in clashes.
The investigation remains ongoing; no charges have been filed.
