The unit will now handle both the missing-person investigation and the probe into a brawl that occurred shortly before Dayan vanished, a move expected to centralize the investigation under a single team.
The investigation has seen multiple developments since Dayan's disappearance. On July 28, a court extended the detention of two suspects, including Omri Peretz, by three days, and police expressed confidence they had identified individuals who know Dayan's whereabouts. That same day, police located two helmets suspected to belong to Dayan and his friends, and Channel 14 reported new details on Dayan's final hours. Suspicion grew that Dayan may have gone underground after friends threatened his life, and it emerged that his friend Maxim Broverman is suspected of driving the car involved in an attempted hit-and-run. The police assessment strengthened that Dayan fled rather than being abducted, after gas station footage showed him leaving his vehicle without apparent distress.
