The governor of Qom province said preparations are underway for the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the city of Qom, and estimated millions of attendees, many arriving from abroad. Citing a forecast of 45°C (113°F) on the funeral day, he noted plans to begin the ceremony as early as 5:00 AM and conclude by 11:00 AM if the body arrives overnight.
The governor of Qom province said Thursday evening that preparations for the funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the city of Qom have begun. He stated that a large proportion of expected attendees from abroad have chosen to come to Qom, and that the assessment is that millions will reach the city.
According to the governor, the forecast temperature on the day of the funeral is around 45°C (113°F). If the body arrives in Qom overnight, the plan is to begin the ceremony at 5:00 AM and conclude by 11:00 AM, to avoid the worst of the heat.
This report adds a Qom leg to the funeral itinerary. As The Zioneer previously reported, the official schedule published June 13 by the regime listed a four-day program beginning July 4 in Tehran, with burial set for July 9 in Mashhad. The Tehran governor separately announced a main ceremony in the capital, and the Tehran mayor stated ceremonies would also be held in Iraq on July 8-9. The Qom governor's statement is the first official confirmation of a funeral event in Qom, details of which had not been included in the published schedule. It remains unclear when the Qom ceremony would take place relative to other events.
