TL;DR

Russia has begun importing maritime fuel from India, according to two industry sources who spoke to Reuters. At least 60,000 tons of gasoline have been sent so far, with two tankers carrying 30,000–40,000 tons each, in an effort to alleviate a fuel shortage caused by Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Russia has begun importing maritime fuel from India for the first time, according to two industry sources who spoke to Reuters on Wednesday. One source said at least 60,000 tons of gasoline had already been shipped, while a second described two tankers carrying 30,000–40,000 tons each. The imports aim to mitigate a deepening fuel shortage caused by Ukrainian drone and missile strikes on Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure. As The Zioneer has previously reported, the shortage has led to restrictions on fuel sales in several Russian regions, export bans, and convoys of fuel from China. The Indian shipments mark a new supply route, though the quantities are modest relative to Russia's pre-war domestic consumption. It remains unclear whether additional shipments are planned.
