A man has been charged in Scotland with attacking five men in Edinburgh in what prosecutors describe as an anti-Muslim hate crime. The suspect allegedly stated he was "protecting the country from the Muslim scum who rape our girls," according to the indictment.
A 36-year-old man was formally charged Sunday in connection with the stabbing of five men in Edinburgh, with prosecutors citing an anti-Muslim hate motive. According to the indictment, the suspect told police he was “protecting the country from the Muslim scum who rape our girls and children — enough is enough.” Police have not specified when the suspect will appear in court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The charge follows a series of reports from The Zioneer on Saturday evening. At 20:31 Jerusalem (Saturday), initial reports from Israeli security channels, citing local sources, said counter-terror police had arrested a man and were investigating religious hatred. Within the same minute, a version noting that police were specifically probing a possible religious-hate motive was published. By the third version, also at 20:31, the suspect’s alleged Islamophobic statements were reported. The formal charge now solidifies the hate-crime element that had been suspected from the outset.
As The Zioneer reported Saturday evening, at least two of the victims were leaving a mosque after prayers. Scotland’s Counter-Terrorism Police have been leading the investigation since the arrest. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident, according to earlier reports.
No further details about the victims’ conditions or the legal proceedings have been released. It remains unclear whether additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
