Shaare Zedek Medical Center reports that Neria Leiter, wounded yesterday in a terror attack at the Maccabim checkpoint in Judea and Samaria, is in stable condition after a series of tests and surgeries. His condition remains serious and life-threatening, the hospital said.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem reported Thursday morning that Neria Leiter, the reserve soldier wounded in a car-ramming terror attack at the Maccabim checkpoint on Wednesday, is in stable condition after a series of tests and surgeries. His condition remains serious and life-threatening, the hospital said.
The update marks the first indication of medical progress since the emergency brain surgery Leiter underwent upon arrival Wednesday evening. Earlier Thursday at 09:04 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported that his life was still in danger. At 10:12 Jerusalem, Ambassador Yechiel Leiter arrived at the hospital to be with his son. The attack occurred Wednesday afternoon when a Palestinian terrorist rammed a police patrol vehicle carrying Leiter and an officer during a joint security operation in the Binyamin region. Leiter was critically wounded and rushed to Shaare Zedek, where he underwent complex brain surgery for intracranial hemorrhage. His condition stabilized but remained life-threatening, as reported in multiple hospital updates Wednesday evening. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Leiter before departing for New York.
As The Zioneer has reported, Neria Leiter is the son of Yechiel Leiter, Israel's Ambassador to the United States. The family has already suffered a profound loss in this war: his older brother, Moshe Leiter, fell in battle in the Gaza Strip. Ambassador Leiter, who was in Washington at the time of the attack, returned to Israel and arrived at the hospital Thursday morning.
Doctors have not yet declared Leiter out of danger, and his condition continues to be closely monitored. No further details on the attacker's identity or affiliation have been disclosed.
