Tuesday evening, Coastal District detectives arrested a suspect in the targeted killing of Yanis Yushvayev, the head of the Caucasian mafia, Israeli police sources told The Zioneer. A senior police official said investigators believe they have captured the hitman who carried out the assassination on Sunday at a Caesarea gas station.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation. Police also detained several other suspects in connection with the murder. Footage released by police shows the suspect with his eyes covered and hands bound after his arrest.
Earlier in the day, police said they were examining whether the assassin had worn a disguise and whether he was a hired killer brought from abroad who may have already left the country.
Police have expressed concern about possible retaliatory violence. The victim was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in Or Akiva in a funeral that drew a heavy police presence, amid fears of clashes between organized crime factions.
