Maritime monitoring firm TankerTrackers reports that the Iranian supertankers Diona and Hero2 have crossed an area recently under a US naval blockade, carrying a combined 3.8 million barrels of crude — the first Iranian oil exports in roughly two months, according to the firm. An additional tanker carrying about one million barrels also made the crossing. The report is the latest indication that the blockade is eroding, TankerTrackers says.
Maritime monitoring firm TankerTrackers reported Wednesday that Iranian supertankers Diona and Hero2, operated by the National Iranian Oil Company, have crossed an area that was until recently under a US naval blockade, carrying a combined 3.8 million barrels of crude oil. An additional tanker carrying roughly one million barrels also crossed, the firm said. TankerTrackers described the transits as the first Iranian crude exports in about two months.
As The Zioneer reported earlier Wednesday, a third oil tanker had already departed Iran's Chabahar port and passed the blockade line to its destination, citing Bloomberg and Israeli journalist Asaf Rosencweig (N12). The Wednesday afternoon report followed earlier indications — reported by The Zioneer on Tuesday — that the blockade may be eroding, with Iranian state-aligned media reporting three tankers and two cargo ships en route to Iran. On Tuesday evening, The Zioneer reported that Iran had confirmed a deal with the United States allowing resumed crude sales.
The current report adds fresh satellite-image evidence to the growing picture of eased maritime restrictions. TankerTrackers did not specify the destinations of the oil shipments.
