Transport Minister Miri Regev has appointed retired Deputy Commissioner Moti Adrei to lead the external investigative committee tasked with examining Thursday's incidents at Ben Gurion International Airport, N12 reported Sunday. The appointment follows Minister Regev's directive earlier in the day to establish an external probe into the events that led to the airport's shutdown.
Earlier on Sunday, The Zioneer reported that the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) board had set up its own internal investigative committee, headed by its internal auditor, with initial findings expected by the end of the week. At the same time, Minister Regev ordered a separate external investigation into the handling of the crisis. The appointment of Adrei now names the head of that external inquiry.
The external committee will examine the sequence of events that resulted in the cessation of operations at Ben Gurion Airport on Thursday. The IAA's internal committee will review the same incident from within the authority.
The full terms of reference for the external committee have not yet been disclosed. It remains to be seen whether the two investigations will coordinate or operate independently, and what the scope of the external probe's mandate will be.
