In an ABC News interview conducted yesterday, President Trump offered a different perspective on his call with Prime Minister Netanyahu on the eve of the strike in Iran. Trump said he told Netanyahu: 'I don't want to do anything that would hurt the deal — but I told him, you have to use your judgment. Just act according to your judgment, but I don't want the deal damaged.' Trump described Israel's retaliatory strike as 'unnecessary' but said he understands why Israel carried it out. 'They wanted to show a response,' he said. 'When you are attacked, there really must be some kind of response.'
