Two terrorists were reportedly eliminated in the Samaria region after stabbing a volunteer who arrived to extinguish a fire they had set. The volunteer was seriously wounded in the chest.
The IDF confirmed that two terrorists set a fire as a lure near the community of Itamar in Samaria on Thursday, then stabbed a 51-year-old volunteer who arrived to extinguish the blaze. Another civilian at the scene identified the attack and shot and killed both assailants. The wounded man was evacuated by a Unit 669 helicopter to a hospital. The IDF has imposed a cordon on the village of Beit Furik and is searching the area.
The first reports of the attack, published at 12:25 Jerusalem, were fragmentary. An initial report from The Jerusalem Post stated that a Jewish man was stabbed and two Palestinians were wounded. Magen David Adom then confirmed that the victim was a 51-year-old man in serious condition, and a military helicopter was dispatched to evacuate him. Reports from the scene indicated that the assailants set a fire near the Derech Avraham farm, and the victim was stabbed while trying to extinguish it. The IDF confirmed that the fire was a lure and that a civilian had neutralized the terrorists. The military also imposed a curfew on the village of Beit Furik, where the fire was started.
The condition of the wounded volunteer has not been updated since the initial evacuation. The identity of the civilian who neutralized the assailants has not been publicly released. Security forces are continuing their search, and the cordon on Beit Furik remains in place.
