According to the indictment, Sabassi raised roughly $600,000 between December 2023 and early 2024 via online fundraising and a charity front, the Arab Charity Foundation, sending about $116,000 to a Hamas member and attempting to convert $382,000 into cryptocurrency for the terror group.
The US Department of Justice on Wednesday charged Reda Mazen Rida Sabassi, 38, of San Diego, California, with providing material support to Hamas, along with sanctions evasion, wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements.
According to the indictment, Sabassi used online fundraising platforms and a charity front, The Arab Charity Foundation, Inc., to raise approximately $600,000 between December 2023 and early 2024. Prosecutors say about $116,000 was sent to a Hamas member, and Sabassi also attempted to convert $382,000 into cryptocurrency for transfer to the organization. Hamas is designated a terrorist group by the United States.
The case is the latest federal effort to disrupt financial networks supporting the terror group, following years of US Treasury sanctions on Hamas-linked financial facilitators and money-exchange operations in Gaza, Turkey, and elsewhere. As The Zioneer has reported, Hamas finance operatives such as Khader Jamasi, killed in an Israeli strike in June 2026, oversaw a network of money exchangers that channeled tens of millions of dollars to the group's military wing. The charges against Sabassi suggest US law enforcement is continuing to pursue Hamas-linked fundraising on American soil.
