TL;DR

Analyst Yossi Yehoshua assesses the emerging Israel-Lebanon agreement as beneficial for Israel but fragile, warning that Iran and Hezbollah will attempt to sabotage it. Israel is accordingly prepared to resume fighting, including against Iran, in a move he said could restore eroded deterrence.

01 · THE DISPATCH

Analyst Yossi Yehoshua published an assessment Sunday evening arguing that the framework agreement with Lebanon, while good for Israel, remains fragile. He assessed that Iran and Hezbollah will try to sabotage it, and that Israel is preparing for a possible return to fighting — including directly against Iran — which could restore deterrence that has eroded.

As The Zioneer reported Sunday, Minister Eli Cohen praised the deal as "excellent for Israel" and "a very harsh blow to Hezbollah and Iran." Other Israeli analysts have offered more cautious appraisals: military analyst Noam Amir noted Sunday that the deal leaves Hezbollah free to rebuild beyond the Israeli-declared security zone — a major flaw, in his view. Yehoshua's assessment aligns with earlier reporting on Saturday that Israeli security officials assess Iran and Hezbollah will take extraordinary action to prevent the deal's success. Hezbollah has threatened to destroy Israeli forces in Lebanon if the agreement is violated.

Yehoshua's latest statement does not cite official Israeli sources but reflects the dominant analytical view among Israeli commentators that the agreement, while a strategic setback for Tehran, is not yet stable.
