Balad
Balad is an Arab-Israeli political party that advocates for the transformation of Israel into a "state of all its citizens" and frequently aligns with other Arab factions in joint electoral lists.
Balad (an acronym for Brit Le'umit Demokratit) is a secular Arab nationalist party in Israel. Since its founding, the party has been a controversial fixture in the Israeli political landscape due to its ideological rejection of Israel's identity as a Jewish state. Instead, Balad promotes a platform centered on the concept of a "state of all its citizens," which seeks to strip the state of its Zionist foundations and Jewish national character. This stance has frequently led to legal challenges regarding the party's eligibility to run for the Knesset under Israeli laws that prohibit candidates or parties from denying the existence of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.
In recent years, Balad has been a central component of the Joint List, a political alliance of Arab-majority parties including Hadash and Ta'al.
