Kfar Yair, widely known as Kochav Yair, is a prominent community in the Sharon plain of central Israel. Located near the pre-1967 Green Line, it occupies a strategic position along the seam zone separating sovereign Israel from Samaria. The community is characterized by a high socioeconomic status and its proximity to major urban centers, making it a key residential hub for families and professionals. Historically, its location near the armistice line has necessitated a robust local security posture, a reality underscored by its proximity to the Palestinian city of Qalqilya and nearby Arab villages. On June 7, 2026, Kfar Yair became the starting point for a significant security incident described by authorities as a "rolling" terror attack. The assault began at a gas station near the entrance to the community, where a gunman opened fire on civilians. The perpetrator, later identified as an Arab-Israeli from Tayibe, moved through the neighboring communities of Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan, complicating the response of emergency services and the Israel Police. The attack resulted in the death of Haim Klumiti, a local resident and reservist, and left several others wounded. The incident has sparked national debate regarding the security of seam-zone communities and the legal tools available to the Shin Bet in addressing domestic threats. Internationally, the attack drew condemnation from figures such as Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who expressed solidarity with Israel.
