Talegan 2 is a specialized facility situated within the sprawling Parchin military complex, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Tehran. For years, Western intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have identified the site as a focal point for Iran's nuclear weapons research, specifically related to high-explosive testing and the development of detonation systems for nuclear warheads. Unlike enrichment facilities, Talegan 2 is associated with the 'weaponization' phase of a nuclear program.

In recent years, the site has become a primary target for Israeli kinetic operations aimed at degrading Iran's nuclear breakout capabilities. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly struck the facility in October 2024 and again during 'Operation Roaring Lion' in early 2026. These strikes were intended to neutralize sensitive equipment used in the modeling of nuclear explosions.

However, satellite imagery analyzed in July 2026 reveals a persistent Iranian commitment to the site. Following the clearance of debris in early June, Iranian forces have been observed reinforcing the structure with concrete and sealing damage from previous aerial bombardments. These engineering efforts are viewed by analysts as an attempt to 'harden' the facility against future strikes, making it more difficult to penetrate with conventional munitions. The activity at Talegan 2 coincides with reported developments at other secret Iranian facilities, such as the underground Mount Makush site near Natanz, suggesting a broader strategic push by the Islamic Republic to restore its nuclear infrastructure amidst heightened regional tensions and direct confrontation with the United States and Israel.
