Zur Baher (also spelled Tzur Baher) is an Arab neighborhood located in the southeastern part of Jerusalem, within the city's municipal boundaries as defined after 1967. It borders the Jewish neighborhoods of East Talpiot to the north and Har Homa to the south, and lies adjacent to the Green Line. Residents hold Jerusalem residency status, and the neighborhood is under Israeli civil and police jurisdiction.

The area is predominantly residential, with a population of tens of thousands. Like several other Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem, Zur Baher has experienced tensions related to urban planning disputes, residency rights, and periodic outbreaks of criminal violence. Israeli police maintain a presence in the area, though enforcement capacity has at times been contested.

Criminal violence — including shootings linked to organized crime and clan disputes — has been a recurring challenge in Zur Baher and in Arab communities across Jerusalem and the broader Israeli Arab sector. Such incidents are distinct from politically motivated terrorism, though the line can sometimes be blurred in initial reporting.

On the night of June 6, 2026, a shooting incident in Zur Baher left at least one man in his 30s seriously wounded. Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated the seriously wounded man and two lightly injured individuals to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Initial reports indicated a possible additional seriously wounded person who was evacuated independently. Israeli police classified the incident as criminal in nature. The incident is consistent with a broader pattern of intra-community gun violence that has affected Arab localities across Israel in recent years, a phenomenon that Israeli authorities and community leaders have repeatedly flagged as a public safety crisis requiring sustained law-enforcement attention.
