According to maritime and security reports, at least one drone struck a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and regasification unit. The vessel, which flies the Marshall Islands flag and is under U.S. ownership, sustained damage during the incident.

Additional damage was reported to a second tanker and nearby port facilities. Inchcape Shipping Services noted that the explosion occurred during cargo discharge, leading to the temporary relocation of involved vessels outside the port area. No casualties have been reported as of Wednesday night.

Iranian-linked channels associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) quickly characterized the event as a targeted drone strike against U.S. interests. Conversely, Egyptian security sources cited by regional media denied any external attack, asserting that the fire originated in the engine room of an aging ship.

This incident marks a rare security disruption at an Egyptian Mediterranean port. While the region has seen persistent maritime friction—including prior drone strikes on tankers off Oman and in the Strait of Hormuz—Egypt has largely remained insulated from direct kinetic attacks on its energy infrastructure during the current regional confrontation.
