IDF names Staff Sgt. Naveh Havshush, fifth soldier killed in southern Lebanon tank incident

Staff Sgt. Naveh Havshush was a graduate of the Beit Yatir pre-military preparatory program and was serving as a tank commander in the 401st Armored Brigade. According to family members, he had planned to attend officer training following his current operational deployment. His father, Chaim, shared that Naveh had sent him a message approximately one hour before the incident, expressing his hope to return home soon and surprise his mother.

The incident in which Havshush fell has been characterized as a heavy tank explosion during operations in southern Lebanon. The IDF previously cleared for publication the names of four other soldiers killed in the same event: Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon (the 52nd Battalion commander), Staff Sgt. Yoav Klein, Staff Sgt. Liav Kababia, and Staff Sgt. Nir Ben Ari. The loss of a battalion commander alongside his crew and attached personnel marks one of the most significant single-incident casualty counts for the Armored Corps in the current northern sector operations.

As of Sunday morning, the specific cause of the tank blast remains under investigation by the military. The IDF is examining whether the explosion was caused by a powerful improvised explosive device (IED), an anti-tank missile strike, or a technical malfunction. Naveh Havshush is survived by his parents and two sisters. His funeral, along with those of several of his comrades from the incident, is expected to take place today.
