IDF releases footage of Oct. 7 infiltrator Mahmoud Fatair's elimination, details hostage handover role

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the elimination of Mahmoud Fatair, a Nukhba commander within the Central Gaza Brigade of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror organization. According to military statements, Fatair was targeted in a strike in the Deir al-Balah area over the weekend. The operation was carried out to remove what the IDF described as an immediate threat, as Fatair had recently been attempting to advance terror attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.

Role in Hostage Captivity

Fatair was identified as a key figure involved in the captivity of Israeli hostages following the October 7 massacre. The military specifically linked him to the holding of Rom Braslavski. Furthermore, the IDF released evidence showing Fatair's participation in the sixth phase of Operation "Heaven's Doors" in November 2023. During this phase, he was documented at a formal handover ceremony involving 10 captives, appearing alongside released hostages Ofir Engel and Amit Shani.

Context of Operations

This elimination follows a consistent IDF strategy of targeting specific individuals who participated in the October 7 atrocities.
