TL;DR

The Haifa District Court has received an indictment against Samid Jaja, a resident of Ar'ara, for the reckless murder of his 9-year-old daughter Laila. According to the charge sheet, on May 27 during the Feast of the Sacrifice and amid a family dispute, the defendant fired at least eight bullets from inside his home toward the yard where family members were standing; one bullet struck the girl in the head and killed her. He is also accused of disposing of the handgun to obstruct the investigation.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The indictment filed Thursday at the Haifa District Court provides the clearest picture yet of the killing of Laila Jaja, 9, in Ar'ara on May 27. As The Zioneer previously reported (June 21 and June 24), police had earlier signaled charges were coming and alleged attempts to tamper with evidence. The charge sheet now specifies: the father, Samid Jaja, fired at least eight shots from inside the home into the yard during a family dispute on the Feast of the Sacrifice. One round struck Laila in the head, killing her. Prosecutors further allege Jaja hid the handgun to obstruct the probe. The case has drawn attention to the broader pattern of gun violence in Arab communities in Israel; The Zioneer has also reported on other recent indictments for killings amid family feuds in the Negev and Haifa.
