The four-party surplus vote agreement was finalized Thursday evening, as Yashar chairman Gadi Eisenkot and The Democrats chairman Yair Golan signed on to the framework first established earlier in the day by Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman and Together chairman Naftali Bennett. The expanded pact allows the allied centrist and center-right parties to pool leftover votes to maximize their combined Knesset seat count.
Earlier Thursday at 16:45 Jerusalem, The Zioneer reported the initial Liberman-Bennett surplus vote agreement. By 16:59, The Zioneer confirmed the signing. The addition of Eisenkot and Golan now broadens the alliance to four parties, creating a potential bloc that could translate surplus votes into additional seats at the expense of parties that do not form such agreements.
The alliance builds on recent political positioning. As The Zioneer reported on July 7, Eisenkot has argued that only Yashar can form a "Zionist conscription government" — one that would include all segments of society in military service, potentially excluding the Haredi parties. A June 18 N12 poll, covered by The Zioneer, showed Eisenkot overtaking Bennett in seat projections and closing to within one seat of Likud. The four-party surplus agreement represents a coordinated effort to consolidate the opposition's vote against the Likud-led coalition.
While surplus vote agreements are a standard mechanism to reduce wasted votes, they do not guarantee a joint candidate list or a post-election coalition.
