The governor of Bushehr city in southern Iran told the state-affiliated Iranian news agency that air defense systems were activated in the city, but there have been no reports of attacks or rocket falls. The statement adds to a series of recent air defense alerts in the region.
The governor of Bushehr city told the state-affiliated IRNA news agency that air defense systems were activated in the city but that no attacks or rocket impacts have been reported. The statement comes hours after a series of reports of explosions and air defense activity in the Bushehr area.
Earlier tonight (Tue 18:46 Jerusalem), The Zioneer tracked a cascade of reports: first, explosions at Vahdati Air Base in Dezful; then additional explosions in Dezful; then explosions in southern Iran per ynet; then explosions in the city of Bushehr reported by security analyst Yair Goldblatt; and finally, activation of air defense systems around the Bushehr nuclear plant reported by journalist Barak Ravid. The governor's denial now directly contradicts the reports of explosions in Bushehr city.
The Zioneer has previously documented a pattern of air defense alerts in the Bushehr region. On June 11, air defense systems were reportedly activated in the area. On June 23, the governor announced a planned test of air defense systems near the nuclear plant. On July 8, the deputy governor confirmed that two military bases in the province were struck by rocket barrages. On July 9, Iranian media denied that the nuclear plant was damaged in US strikes. On July 10, IRNA attributed an explosion in Bushehr to air defense activity and said a military site was hit by a US-Israeli missile. The cause of tonight's activation remains unclear, and the governor's assurance is based on a single source.
