US Central Command says it launched a new wave of strikes against dozens of military targets across Iran, after Tehran violated a ceasefire by launching a drone at the oil tanker MT Kiko near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes hit command-and-control infrastructure, communications, air defense systems, drone depots, and minelaying capabilities, according to CENTCOM.
US Central Command announced Sunday morning that it had opened a new wave of strikes against dozens of military targets across Iran, after accusing Tehran of violating a ceasefire. In a statement, CENTCOM said Iran launched a one-way drone at the oil tanker MT Kiko near the Strait of Hormuz, breaching the truce that had followed the previous round of American strikes. The command said it had struck command-and-control nodes, communications systems, air defense batteries, drone storage facilities, and minelaying infrastructure.
As The Zioneer reported, the US had conducted strikes against Iranian positions earlier this week in response to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping. CENTCOM said the latest wave was "in response to continued Iranian attacks on commercial shipping" and that US forces "remain vigilant, lethal, and ready."
Separately, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the US strikes, calling them a violation of the UN Charter and a breach of Article 1 of the memorandum of understanding between the two countries. Tehran accused Washington of having "no value or credibility for its commitments."
The strike wave follows a pattern of escalating tit-for-tat exchanges in recent days, with the US targeting IRGC-linked infrastructure and Iran responding with drone and missile salvos against American positions and regional shipping.
