Chen Cohen, the estranged husband and prime suspect in the murder of Lia Malka Cohen, was indicted Monday on three counts of threats — on the same day he was updated that he would be released to house arrest. According to the indictment, Cohen sent dozens of WhatsApp and voice messages to Lia and her parents in the months before her murder, including 95 messages to her father within two and a half hours.
Chen Cohen, 32, the estranged husband and prime suspect in the June 5 murder of Lia Malka Cohen on the Ayalon Highway, was formally indicted Monday on three counts of threats. The indictment was filed on the same day Cohen was informed he would be released from custody to house arrest, according to journalist Li Aiash (i24NEWS).
The indictment, a separate case from the murder investigation, details a campaign of threats in the months before Lia's death. Cohen allegedly sent Lia's father 95 WhatsApp messages in a span of roughly two and a half hours, and continued threatening Lia herself through text and voice messages in late April — about a month before the bombing.
Cohen remains a suspect in Lia's murder, which investigators believe was carried out using an explosive device planted in her car. The new indictment covers the threat charges only. The case has drawn widespread attention to the handling of prior complaints filed by Lia against Cohen.
