Chen Cohen, the prime suspect in the murder of his estranged wife Lia Malka Cohen, was charged with threats on the same day he was released from remand, according to i24NEWS. The charge reportedly stems from messages in which he allegedly wrote 'I will sit even 200 years' and threatened her father. Cohen is already suspected of premeditated murder and conspiracy in the June 5 bombing on the Ayalon Highway.
Chen Cohen, the estranged husband and prime suspect in the murder of Lia Malka Cohen, was charged with making threats on Monday — the same day he was released from remand, i24NEWS reports. The charge relates to messages Cohen allegedly sent to his father-in-law before the murder, in which he wrote 'I will sit even 200 years' and threatened, 'you will sleep with your eyes open.'
Cohen was arrested on June 6, one day after his wife was killed by an explosive device on the Ayalon Highway. His remand was extended by nine days on June 5. He has denied the murder allegations, claiming he was at home at the time of the blast. Two prior complaints filed by Lia against him for threats were reportedly handled by police, who said no explicit threat against her emerged from the file.
The new threat charge, filed upon release, means Cohen faces simultaneous legal proceedings on both the murder and threats counts. His defense team has not yet commented on the new indictment.
