The Tel Aviv District Central Unit, in coordination with the Shin Bet and the Ayalon District Crime Fighting Unit, arrested Avraham Hadi, a resident of Ramat Gan in his 40s, on Thursday, July 30. Hadi is suspected of throwing a stone at the entrance of N12's (Channel 12) Tel Aviv offices and leaving a threatening letter addressed to journalists and public figures. The letter referenced the network's reporting on alleged IDF abuse of a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention facility, warning it would 'smash journalists' heads with a brick' if it did not apologize.
The investigation was placed under a gag order until the arrest was permitted for publication. Police revealed that Hadi had been previously arrested on suspicion of spraying a graffiti message reading 'Blood of traitors, even more for publication' outside the offices of Channel 13 in Ramat HaHayal.
On Friday, July 31, a court extended Hadi's remand by four days, until Monday. His attorney argued that the act should be viewed as a legitimate democratic expression of opinion. The Shin Bet's involvement in the investigation underscores the severity with which the authorities are treating the attack on the media outlet.
