The Defense Ministry, on the instruction of Defense Minister Israel Katz, announced that the Gilboa crossing will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week for vehicle traffic by Israeli residents of northern Samaria, for a period of four months. The decision follows a joint staff process led by the Crossings Authority, the Central Command, and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.
Overnight vehicle traffic will be permitted for northern Samaria residents and for infrastructure work. Weekend policy remains unchanged. The measure applies to Israeli citizens only and does not alter the existing policy regarding entry of Palestinian workers from Judea and Samaria into Israel.
The move is part of the defense establishment's readiness to implement the government's decision to establish new communities in northern Samaria — a policy push that also includes a NIS 1 billion road plan, as The Zioneer previously reported. The crossing's expanded hours are subject to security assessments and may be adjusted.
