Subsequent details from the same hour confirmed the exact street and the ages of the suspects. According to the police, the suspects were apprehended following a chase by Ashdod police officers.
The incident is the latest in a series of grenade attacks in central Israel in recent weeks. As The Zioneer reported on July 23, a Lod resident was arrested on suspicion of throwing a grenade at a home in Herzliya. On June 25, three suspects were arrested in connection with a May grenade blast in Or Yehuda that wounded five civilians. On July 14, two young suspects were arrested over a grenade explosion in south Tel Aviv, and on July 13, police investigated a suspected grenade thrown at a home in Or Yehuda. Other incidents include a grenade blast in the lobby of a north Tel Aviv complex on July 11 and a grenade attack linked to a protection racket in Kafr Qara on June 10.
The motive for the Bat Yam attack remains unclear. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not disclosed whether the suspects are known to have criminal backgrounds or whether the attack was targeted.
