Security analyst Yair Goldblatt reports that explosions are continuing in the city of Erbil in Iraq's Kurdistan region, citing local reports. The cause and any casualties or damage remain unclear.
Security analyst Yair Goldblatt reported at around 02:51 Jerusalem on Sunday that explosions are continuing in Erbil, the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan region, citing local reports. The update comes after a series of strikes earlier tonight that targeted Iranian opposition headquarters in the city and surrounding area.
The Zioneer first reported the explosions at around 00:58 Jerusalem, when security analyst Hananel Aviv attributed the blasts to Iranian suicide drones targeting Kurdish opposition groups. A second update at the same time confirmed the involvement of Iranian missiles and drones, with footage showing interceptions over the city. A third report at 00:58 detailed additional explosions in the Soran area, reportedly targeting Iranian opposition organizations. The initial reports from a single analyst were soon corroborated by multiple sources, including local reports and visual evidence.
As The Zioneer has reported, similar explosions struck Erbil on June 16 and July 9, attributed by analysts to suspected Iranian activity. The current wave of strikes occurs against a backdrop of numerous unexplained explosions across the Middle East in recent weeks, as The Zioneer reported on July 17.
No casualties or damage have been confirmed for the continuing explosions. It remains unclear whether the blasts are a continuation of the same wave or a separate incident.
