A family in Modiin Illit escaped an early-Saturday-morning apartment fire on Messilat Yosef Street after a daughter woke up from the smoke and alerted the rest of the household, according to Israel Fire and Rescue Services. The blaze, which filled the home with heavy smoke, began from candles left burning on top of a refrigerator. No injuries were reported. A separate electrical-cabinet fire later broke out on Hefetz Hayim Street.
Two fires broke out in Modiin Illit over Shabbat, Israel Fire and Rescue Services reported on Saturday evening.
The first incident occurred in the early Saturday morning hours on Messilat Yosef Street. A candle left burning on a refrigerator ignited the blaze, filling the apartment with heavy smoke. A family member woke to the smoke and woke the rest of the household, enabling all to escape. Firefighters extinguished the fire, searched for anyone trapped, and ventilated the building. Rescue officer Moni Ben Zion stated that the family's alertness averted a potential tragedy.
The second fire broke out later on Hefetz Hayim Street when an electrical cabinet caught fire, sending smoke into the building. Firefighting crews extinguished the cabinet, ventilated the area, and conducted searches. No injuries were reported in either incident.
