Israel Fire and Rescue Services announced control over the wildfire that approached the community of Sela'it in western Samaria, after a multi-hour operation that included aerial tankers. Residents evacuated from the frontline homes were returning to their houses as of 19:40, according to the fire service. No casualties have been reported.
Firefighters have contained the wildfire that threatened the community of Sela'it in western Samaria, the Israel Fire and Rescue Services reported Sunday evening. The fire, which broke out near the community around noon, advanced under wind toward the built-up area and prompted the evacuation of the first row of homes earlier in the afternoon.
Ground crews from the Judea and Samaria and Central districts, volunteer units, and the "Elad" aerial tanker squadron worked for several hours to halt the spread. At one point, firefighters feared the blaze would reach the outermost houses, leading to a coordinated evacuation with Israel Police, while other residents were told to seal themselves indoors due to thick smoke.
As of 19:40, the fire was declared under control, and evacuated residents began returning. Firefighting crews will remain at the scene for final extinguishing operations. As The Zioneer reported at 15:36, the earlier phase involved evacuating the first row of homes with 14 crews and four aerial tankers. No casualties have been reported.
