Firefighting crews in Safed brought a blaze under control by Wednesday afternoon, aided by aerial firefighting planes. Two people sustained light injuries and were evacuated from the scene by Magen David Adom medical teams.
The incident commander, Rav Reshef Roi Finish, described a complex scene with a real danger of flames spreading rapidly toward residential buildings. "Through strenuous efforts, the firefighters managed to halt the spread of the flames and prevent damage to additional homes," he said.
The Zioneer has previously reported on other fires in the Safed area, including a blaze that forced the evacuation of the first row of homes in the Nof Kineret neighborhood earlier this month, and a separate fire near the city that was extinguished without casualties. The cause of today's fire remains under investigation.
