Opposition MK and former IDF chief Gadi Eisenkot (Yesh Atid) said Wednesday that granting MK Tally Gotliv parliamentary immunity is a spit in the face of Israeli security personnel who risk their lives. Eisenkot's statement was reported by N12.
Opposition MK Gadi Eisenkot (Yesh Atid) sharply condemned the Knesset's decision Wednesday to grant MK Tally Gotliv (Likud) parliamentary immunity. Eisenkot said a situation in which elected officials endanger Israeli security and use their immunity as a safe haven from the law is a spit in the face of the fighters and security personnel — including Israelis who voted for Likud and coalition parties in the last election, he added. The remark, reported by N12's channel, comes minutes after the Knesset plenum voted 62-48 to approve Gotliv's immunity. The Zioneer reported earlier that the Attorney General had warned the immunity would endanger the state and soldiers, and that the Shin Bet found Gotliv had endangered a senior service member and his family. Opponents of the measure, including coalition MKs such as Yuli Edelstein, also voted against it, questioning the double standard. A prior bulletin noted Minister Ze'ev Elkin said he would support the immunity. Eisenkot's statement adds a sharp security-focused rebuke to the debate.
