TL;DR

Organizers linked to dissidents abroad are calling for large anti-Hamas protests in Gaza on Friday, demanding better living conditions. The initiative, dubbed 'Fury Day' and the 'June 26 Revolution,' faces efforts by Hamas to suppress it, according to Israeli sources and the Times of Israel.

01 · THE DISPATCH

A planned large-scale anti-Hamas demonstration in Gaza this Friday has been branded by its organizers as 'Fury Day' and the 'June 26 Revolution,' according to the latest reports. This marks the first organized public challenge to the terror group's rule since the ceasefire, with dissidents abroad calling for protests demanding improved living conditions in the Strip.

Our thread on this story began Wednesday, Jun 24 at 21:25 Jerusalem, when we first reported that Gaza-based activists were launching a 'July 26 Revolution' movement against Hamas, per Channel 14. Shortly after, at the same time stamp, we published that Hamas was working to disrupt the protests, having reportedly arrested organizers in recent days and labeling the protest day as 'Fury Day.' More corroboration came later: The Times of Israel reported on the initiative Thursday, and Israeli security sources confirmed Hamas arrests and intimidation efforts, as The Zioneer noted earlier today.

As The Zioneer reported on Thu 13:17 Jerusalem, the IDF has prepared for possible Hamas-orchestrated 'riots' beginning Friday. The protest movement has antecedents in earlier, Fatah-linked demonstrations in Gaza, but this effort is notable for its scale and timing. Hamas, still maintaining significant control despite military depletion, views any public dissent as a direct challenge to its authority, as our Jun 11 analysis of the group's focus on controlling the Gazan population noted.

It remains unclear whether the protests will materialize in significant numbers on Friday, and how Hamas will respond if they do. The initial version of our Wednesday report listed the movement as the 'July 26 Revolution' before a corrected version gave the June 26 name — that discrepancy has not been further explained.
