The Health Ministry has officially advised against swimming at Haifa beaches, following abnormal microbial results in sea water quality tests, according to N12. The advisory comes after the Haifa Municipality earlier closed five beaches due to a sewage leak.
The Health Ministry officially advised against swimming at all Haifa beaches at 11:34 Jerusalem today, following abnormal microbial results in routine water quality tests, according to N12. The advisory makes the closure official at the national level, after the Haifa Municipality had ordered the closure of five beaches earlier at 10:01 Jerusalem due to a sewage leak.
The municipal closure came after a drainage system malfunction discharged sewage into the sea between Saturday night and Sunday morning, as The Zioneer reported at 10:01. Initial reports had varied on the scope, but by 10:01 the specific beaches were identified: Student, Dado, Dado Center, Zamir, and Bat Galim. The cause was confirmed as a drainage malfunction.
The Zioneer has previously reported on similar swim advisories by the Health Ministry for other beaches, including Tel Aviv's Cliff North beach (June 12) and Bat Yam's Dogma and Riviera beaches (July 9), as part of routine water quality monitoring.
Additional water sampling is underway to determine when the beaches can reopen. The Health Ministry advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
