As The Zioneer reported on July 30, the coffins were flown from Belgrade to Jerusalem following a ceremony attended by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, who spoke of the historic ties between Serbia and the Jewish people. The transfer required coordination between Israeli and Serbian authorities, as well as religious authorities to ensure the remains were handled according to Jewish law.
The reinterment in Jerusalem places the Herzl family alongside the founder of the Zionist movement at Mount Herzl, Israel's national cemetery. The site has been a focal point for state ceremonies and Zionist pilgrimage.
