TL;DR

A day after the fall of Lt. Col. Dor Ben Simhon, the IDF Ground Forces commander approved the appointment of Lt. Col. G., an armored officer who served in the 188th Brigade and commanded the Sea of Galilee-Nir 843 Battalion, as the permanent commander of the 52nd Battalion. He is expected to assume the position in the coming days.

01 · THE DISPATCH

The IDF has appointed a new permanent commander for the 52nd Battalion (401st Armored Brigade) following the death of Lt. Col. Dor Ben Simhon in southern Lebanon on Friday, June 19.

According to a military announcement, the appointment of Lt. Col. G. was finalized during a staffing discussion held Monday morning, headed by Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan. The officer is expected to take command in the coming days.

Lt. Col. G. began his military service in the 188th Armored Brigade, held a series of positions there, and served as the operations officer (AGAM) of the 215th Fire Brigade at the start of the war. He later served as the commander of the Northern Division's war room (Mashlat) and fought in the Gaza Strip. Over the past year he established the Sea of Galilee war room, also designated 'Nir 843 Battalion.'

As The Zioneer has reported, Ben Simhon was killed while leading a mission to destroy strategic Hezbollah underground infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The 52nd Battalion has seen multiple commanders since the war began; the newly appointed officer will be the fifth to lead it — now as a permanent appointment rather than an acting replacement.
