The IDF on Wednesday evening issued a detailed response to the letter from Hesder yeshiva heads who announced earlier this week they would stop sending students to the Armored Corps in protest over gender integration. The military emphasized it needs every soldier and female soldier after two and a half years of intensive multi-front war, and stressed that the High Court did not order female combatants into the Armored Corps but rather mandated a pilot program. The pilot, the IDF said, will not place men and women in the same tank crew, platoon or company. It has not yet been submitted to the chief of staff for approval and will be discussed in the coming period. Senior IDF officers have maintained ongoing dialogue with yeshiva heads and representatives over recent months, the military added.
