Troops of the 551st Brigade operating under the 91st Division uncovered a tunnel network more than 200 meters long and over 25 meters deep beneath the village of Majdal Zoun, approximately 10 kilometers inside Lebanon. The complex contained four launch shafts aimed at Israel, 12 rooms, and hundreds of weapons including anti-tank missiles and UAVs. More than 20 Hezbollah operatives were eliminated, over 10 of them from the elite Radwan force, the IDF said.
The IDF on Sunday evening disclosed that more than 20 Hezbollah operatives were eliminated during the ongoing operation in the village of Majdal Zoun, southern Lebanon — including over 10 from the elite Radwan force. The announcement builds on a series of revelations throughout the day, beginning at 19:03 Jerusalem when The Zioneer first reported the discovery of a fortified compound containing Iranian-made drones and explosives. By 19:18 Jerusalem, the full scope of a multi-shaft tunnel network began to emerge; at 19:03 Jerusalem, separate reports detailed a 200-meter-long route with four launch shafts aimed at Israel, 12 rooms, and hundreds of weapons. The 20:16 Jerusalem bulletin described the complex as a subterranean 'airfield' with Iranian-made UAVs and launch shafts aimed at the Israeli coast.
As The Zioneer reported earlier in the week (Sun Jun 7, 19:50 Jerusalem), an Iranian-funded tunnel network six kilometers from Metula was previously exposed beneath the Beaufort Ridge, designed to house hundreds of operatives and withstand prolonged combat within a civilian area. The discovery in Majdal Zoun follows the same pattern: the IDF emphasized that the tunnel was deliberately built under the civilian village, consistent with Hezbollah's established tactic of using populated areas as shields.
More than 50 terrorist infrastructure sites — including observation posts and weapons depots — have been dismantled during the operation. The Yahalom combat engineering unit located the tunnel and its concealed rooms, which contained anti-tank missiles, explosive devices, and UAVs. The IDF stated that troops continue to hold the area in accordance with the ceasefire understandings and are clearing additional threats.
It remains unclear whether further tunnel segments or additional operatives remain hidden in the vicinity, and the full operational assessment is ongoing.
