Iran's Foreign Ministry accused the United States of a 'blatant violation' of Article 10 of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, after the US ended the temporary suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil. The ministry said the move undermines the diplomatic framework.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the United States of a 'blatant violation' of Article 10 of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding early Wednesday, after Washington ended the temporary suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil. The accusation, issued at 00:33 Jerusalem, is the latest in a series of statements from the ministry tonight.
Earlier at 00:25 Jerusalem, the ministry issued a statement holding the US responsible for the consequences of violating the MOU, followed by a second statement amid unverified reports of US attacks on Iran, and a third formally holding the US responsible. The new statement specifically cites the end of the oil sanctions suspension as the violation.
The Zioneer reported on June 18 that the MOU's Article 10 commits the US to removing sanctions on Iranian oil exports. On June 21, an Iranian spokesman listed Article 10 among the MOU clauses. On July 1, Iran warned that any US deviation from the MOU commitments would undermine talks.
The White House has not commented on the Iranian accusation. The veracity of the unverified reports of US attacks remains unclear, and it is not yet known whether the end of the sanctions suspension is a permanent policy shift.
